Remote learning at St Joseph's

During these difficlut times of the pandemic we have had to turn to a different way of working. The government expecations during this time are:

“Where a class, group or small number of pupils need to self-isolate, or there is a local lockdown requiring pupils to remain at home, we expect schools to have the capacity to offer immediate remote education. Schools are expected to consider how to continue to improve the quality of their existing offer and have a strong contingency plan in place for remote education provision.” (DfE Guidance for Full Opening August 2020).

Here, at St Joseph's this is what our remote education provison looks like :

Guidance for children self isolating for 10-14 days.

If your child needs to self isolate due to being a close contact with a Coronavirus case:

  • All work for the week will be posted on to the school website in the remote learning page (situated on the class pages)
  • If you need support with the work posted please e-mail your class teacher or the phase e-mail address and the staff will respond as soon as they are available. Please be aware that the staff member will be teaching
  • If possible, you are able to request for a work pack to be printed and this can be collected from the school office.

Remote learning guidance for the closure of a school bubble

  • School will be using a mixture of MS Teams and Purple mash.
  • School will also use a mixture of live and recorded lessons for the children.
  • There will be 2 x 20 minute face to face live stream sessions throughout the day on Monday to Thursday. These will be scheduled on teams for your child to join. They have been timetabled to ensure that if siblings are sharing a device they are all able to access their live lessons.
  • On Wednesday’s (PPA day for staff), the children will access recorded videos of the lessons.
  • All work will be uploaded into files for each day of the week.
  • Activities will also be uploaded and set as 2do’s in the Purple Mash platform.
  • Once the work is completed, upload a photo of the work into the assignments tab for it to be reviewed by the class teacher.
  • The phase emails will be available with the class teachers from 8.30am – 3.30pm. Please remember that there are a number of children accessing this support therefore they will respond to your email as soon as they are able to do so.
  • If the child needs 1 – to – 1 work this will be agreed by the Headteacher, class teacher and the parents.
  • If the class teacher is not able to teach due to illness, work will be uploaded to MS teams by other of the other staff members, however there will be no live stream or recorded lessons. The children affected will be notified of the change.
