Welcome to St Francis' class page

St Francis is one of our year 1/2 classes and we are the Autumn born children.

We are looking forward to sharing all of our work with you this year!

Our team in St Francis are:

Mrs Lamming - Class Teacher
 Mrs Smith - Teaching Assistant
Mrs Nicholson - Teaching Assistant

Health Week

We have had a wonderful week. First we took part in a boot camp, then we had a visit from Antony Cotterill. He was very inspirational and let everyone have a go in his wheelchair. The next day we met Steve Frew who inspired us to keep working hard at the things we love. We made healthy snacks and had a fantastic sports day. Well done St Francis class

Well done to all the children who attended the skipping competition.

The Queens Platinum Jubilee

We had a wonderful day in St Francis Celebrating the Jubilee.

Punch and Judy

As part of our history topic the children have made puppets and performed a puppet show to the class. It was really great with some fantastic story ideas.

We have had some wonderful entries into the Easter competitions. Well done to everyone!

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day on Friday 11th March. The children came in dressed as their favourite character from a book. They also had the opportunity to take a book home to keep. In the afternoon we watched a performance of The Hobbit.

History Day: Monday 7th March

We had a wonderful day learning about the life of Christopher Columbus. We spoke about how the lives and views of people were different in the 1400s. We had fun making maps that looked old, painting pictures of Christopher Columbus' ships, writing with quills, investigating compass points and looked at some of the artefacts that were used on ships at the time.

As part of our RE work on the Mass we have looked at the Church. The children made box models of the inside of a church. We have some very talented artists in St Francis.

Reduce, re-use, recycle!

As part of our science lessons, we have been learning about materials and their properties. We finished our topic by learning about reducing waste by re-using and recycling. We made Christmas decorations out of left-over materials from other activities this half term. We created snowmen, reindeer, Christmas crackers, bells and more - all from material that would otherwise end up in landfill!

Christmas Jumper Day

We had our Christmas jumpers on. We had a lovely Christmas dinner and listened to Christmas music. It was a great day.

Hero Day

Friday the 19th of November: We came dressed up as our heroes. We had doctors, police officers, WW1 officers, scientists, dads, the shoemaker’s wife, astronauts, and many more including one who came as herself because we can all be our own heroes. This was a fun day when we could talk about what inspires us.

Neil Armstrong

We have completed a history topic on a significant person from history. The children have made timelines and role-played the first moon landing, this included making puppets. We had a competition to see who could make the best parachute for the module returning to Earth.

Heaven: As part of RE we discussed what we think heaven is like. We had some amazing ideas and the children created beautiful pictures.

Den Building

During the first half term we had a fun afternoon den building. Chris taught us how to build a weather-proof den. Each team worked hard to build their dens. Some children got wet when Chris tested how waterproof the dens were. We all had lots of fun and learnt some new skills.

Learning support materials

These are a couple things to help support you with learning at home that may be useful.

We love to read!

Please do take  look at what the favourite books are in our class and why don't you try reading some of my favourite 5's as well!
