We have done some fun arts and crafts activities too! This week we had some special friends arrive we can't wait to watch them grow into beautiful butterflies.

The children have decorated their own bunting for the Jubilee, coloured in pictures, had a tea party and made cards to celebrate. Well done nursery!

Summer Term 1 Newsletter
Jack and the Beanstalk

This week our focus has been on the story Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have enjoyed planting beans, learning about the lifecycle of a bean, measuring and comparing the size of beanstalks, re-telling the story, finding rhyming words and building castles!

Sunflowers

This week we have started our new topic all about 'Growing'. I was very impressed with how much the children already know about what plants need to grow. This week, we focused on sunflowers. We watched a video of how sunflowers grow, talked about the things we liked most about sunflowers and then we planted our own sunflower seeds to take home so that the children can watch them grow. The children have also enjoyed listening to stories about sunflowers, learning about the lifecycle of sunflowers and painting their own sunflowers!

The children have enjoyed playing in our pirate ship, trying on pirate clothes, looking for treasure and making pirate maps!

Throughout the day we had lots of fun making cards, pictures and talking about the people we love. The children also enjoyed making their own Valentine's bookmark, making potions and role playing in the Valentine's café. The children also created their own Kandinsky Valentine heart paintings.

A busy week in nursery!

What a busy week we have had in nursery this week. The children have enjoyed listening to the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and so we went on a bear hunt of our own! The children have also enjoyed continuing to learn about different 'Under the Sea' animals. We have written postcards that we have bought from our 'beach shop' and have been painting different 'Under the Sea' pictures. In Religious Studies we have listened to the passage in the Bible about Jesus getting lost in the temple. The children drew sad, shocked and scared faces to reflect on how Joseph and Mary must have felt when they lost Jesus. The children have also been talking about their own feelings. Each morning I ask the children how they feel. They have drawn faces on their whiteboards to show how they feel and I have helped them to write the word underneath their pictures.

Under the Sea

The children have had a great first week back! We have been exploring shells and fossils in the classroom, talking about the trips that we have been on to the beach, making sea masks, making playdoh animals, practicing our letter formation and exploring different sea animals.

Autumn 2 update:

We have had a very busy half term down in nursery. We have enjoyed learning about the different jobs that people have and have been thinking about what we would like to be when we grow up. We were lucky enough to have a nurse and a lifeguard come into the nursery to talk about their jobs and what they entail. The children have enjoyed role playing being at the police station, dentist, hairdressers and doctor's with great interest and enthusiasm. We have discussed the importance of looking after our bodies, brushing our teeth, exercising and eating a balanced diet. In mathematics the children have been learning to count to 5 and looking at one more and one less than the numbers up to 5. The children have also been enjoying listening to rhyming stories and picking out words that rhyme. We are looking forward to starting our new topic after Christmas 'Under the Sea'.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year!
