St Francis's Class

Welcome to an insight into St Francis's class, where we cherish every day to learn and love!

Our main class teachers are: Mrs Wraithmell and Mrs McLean on a Friday.

Our teaching assistants are: Mrs Smith and Miss Noor.

Class charity

In our class, we’ve chosen to raise awareness and money for Street Angels and Emmaus. This charity is important to us because we so often see homelessness, when we are out and about with our families. Through fund raising for this charity, we know that we have actually done some thing to make a difference in another person’s life. We will be holding a toy sale after the Easter Holidays.

Everyone is welcome - Class virtue

At the beginning of the year, we were chosen, as a class, to represent the virtue of courage.

We talked about how we could show courage at school and at home.

Our School Councillors attend the school council meetings to talk about how they can help in our school. pics attached.

Through our learning, we understand the importance of how everyone is unique and special. We learn to respect and love one another. We have learnt that we all sometimes need a little help.

During our Internet Safety Week we read a story called, ‘Chicken Clicking.’ The children really enjoyed this story and went on to write their own stories about a character that was being misled online.

Beyond the classroom

In our class, we’ve enjoyed a wide range of experiences this year to help us develop our love of learning.

In Autumn term we were visited by a ‘bootcamp visitor’. We learned how to challenge ourselves and how to work as a team.

We had lots of fun taking part in the Friends of St Joseph colour run.

In October we enjoyed going on a local walk around Pudsey to look for human and physical features of our town. This was part of our Geography topic which was ‘Town Life,’

Engaging with our learning

Across the curriculum, our minds are filled with wonderful knowledge especially with the help of our exciting and fun lessons.

October was also Black History month and we really enjoyed learning about Nelson Mandela. We completed a fact file in Literacy.

We have welcomed a Hindu and a Jewish Visitor into school to help us with our learning about other faiths.

In February, in preparation for receiving our sacraments this year, year 3 and year 4 have visited Father Peter in church. The Year 3 children learnt about, ‘First Confession’ and the year 4 children learnt about ‘Holy Communion.’

We had a fun day on our ‘Jubilee Day.’ We learnt lots about the Jubilee Year of Hope. We enjoyed planting our seeds of hope in the prayer garden.

In Year 4, we have the opportunity to be part of the SVP, Mini Vinnies. We enjoy putting our Faith into action and helping out with fund raising activities and supporting with worship in our school.

During our electricity topic in science, we enjoyed making our own electrical circuits.
