Class charity
In our class, we’ve chosen to raise awareness and money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. This charity is important to us because they provide a valuable life-saving service to 5 million people across the whole of Yorkshire, 365 days a year. How amazing is that!
In September, we had a visit from our class charity, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, telling us about what they do and why our fundraising is so important – we got given flags to colour in and a Henry the Helicopter teddy for our class! We can’t wait to plan some fundraising activities to raise money for such an important cause.
Everyone is welcome - Class virtue
At the beginning of the year, we were chosen, as a class, to represent the virtue of ‘Love of Learning’.
Alfred says: “I can show ‘Love of Learning’ by trying my best in class.”
Evelyn says: “A friend in my class showed ‘Love of Learning’ when they wrote their own book at home and shared it with us all in St. Georges.”
Jane says: “I could show ‘Love of Learning’ at home by doing my homework.”
Through our learning, we understand the importance of how everyone is unique and special. We learn to respect and love one another through our inclusive days (including Anti-Bullying Day, Dyslexia Day and Autism Awareness Day).
At the end of Spring term, we celebrated Autism Awareness Day. We had lots of fun learning about Autism and explored all things sensory! We had great fun!
We enjoy our Multi-faith days where we learn about other faiths, and in our class, special stories that are important to each faith.
To start Summer term, we learnt about Sikhism. We had a visitor come to tell us about Guru Nanak and he even brought a traditional instrument in! We were so interested in hearing about his story and had lots of questions.
Beyond the classroom
In our class, we’ve enjoyed a wide range of experiences this year to help us develop our love of learning.
In Autumn, we went to Pudsey Park to have a go at using our fieldwork skills.
We also enjoyed Careers Week in Autumn term, welcoming in lots of visitors to tell us about their jobs. Which career would you choose?
In Spring, we visited Lotherton Hall. We loved seeing the penguins and we learnt some interesting (and funny!) facts about some of the animals. What a great day out!
Engaging with our learning
Across the curriculum, our minds are filled with wonderful knowledge, especially with the help of our exciting and fun lessons.
Throughout the year within our Science focus, Seasonal Changes, we have lots of fun exploring the outdoors and spotting any changes to our school and local surroundings.
In Spring term, St George’s were excited to share family photos in our R.E. topic, Families and Celebrations. We explained who is part of our family and talked about what we celebrate together, including Baptism.
On Geography Day, we got to take a closer look at Australia! We started the day making our own passports ready to catch our flights, found Australia on a map, did some Aboriginal and Coral Reef art and finally, pretended to be Australian animals for a bit of exercise!
