St Mary's Class

Welcome to an insight into St Mary's class, where we cherish every day to learn and love!

Our main class teacher is: Miss Collier and Miss Chambers on a Wednesday.

Class charity

Everyone is welcome - class virtue

At the beginning of the year, we were chosen, as a class, to represent the virtue of generosity.

Evelyn says: “I can show generosity by always being kind and helpful.”

Lucas says: “A friend in my class showed generosity when she brought in her own prize box from home and gave a present to three people.”

Ruby says: “I could show generosity at home by washing up or feeding my cat.”

Through our learning, we understand the importance of how everyone is unique and special. We learn to respect and love one another through our inclusive and thought-provoking days.

We designed our own mascots in Internet Safety Week after reading ‘Penguin Pig’.

In our class, we thought it was important to take time to reflect on ‘Remembrance Day’. One of our activities involved making our own poppy.

Beyond the classroom

In our class, we’ve enjoyed a wide range of experiences this year to help us develop our love of learning.

In Autumn, we explored:

- Geography knowledge with a fieldwork trip to Pudsey Park.

- Love for reading with a trip to the local library.

- PE with a 'bootcamp' visitor.

- Creating memories with a colour run.

- Our futures with visitors for 'Career Week'.

- Christmas with celebrations of 'Christmas Dinner and Jumper Day'.

- Drama and singing songs with our AMAZING Nativity performance.

In Spring, we explored:

- Our skipping with a coach to teach us new skills.

- Science with a trip to Lotherton Hall to explore our animals topic.

- RE with a visit to the Church for a Q&A with the priest.

- Love for reading with a whole school parade for our fancy dress as favourite book characters.

In Summer, we explored:

- History with a special visitor to explore the reign of Queen Victoria.

- Science with a 'hunt' for signs of the changing seasons. The children loved all the creepy crawlies!

- Health and Well-being Week we enjoyed Sports Day, especially the competitive sprints.

Engaging with our learning

Across the curriculum, our minds are filled with wonderful knowledge especially with the help of our exciting and fun lessons.

This year, we’ve had two fabulous visitors into school, who inspired us with a whole school assembly and workshops. The first was a poet called Ian Bland and the second was an author called Jason Beresford.

In our Science, we’ve been learning about seasons, plants and trees so to help our studying and observational skills, we planted some of our own bulbs!

St Mary’s class absolutely love PE lessons and especially when we have the Leeds Rhinos coach in to help us learn.

We've thoroughly enjoyed our Art lessons this year and our latest creation including weaving, plaiting, knotting and threading to build our own loom boxes.

In Literacy, we've had the opportunity to develop our understanding of characters through activities like 'Conscience Alley'.

Our class has developed a secure understanding of Religious Education this year through our shared learning in 'Circle Times' and creative drama techniques like 'Freeze Frames'.
