Class charity
In our class, we’ve chosen to raise awareness and money for Help for Heroes. This charity is important to us because we believe the job that the armed forces do should be remembered at every opportunity. We also want to keep alive the memories and the heroic efforts of all the members of the military who have served in previous conflicts both at home and abroad. We have already paid our respects through Armistice Day but we are also planning some activities at the end of June around Armed Forces Day.
Everyone is welcome
Through our learning, we understand the importance of how everyone is unique and special. We learn to respect and love one another through our inclusive days (including Anti-Bullying Day, Dyslexia Day and Autism Awareness Day).
Our class virtue
At the beginning of the year, we were chosen, as a class, to represent the virtue of reflection.
Ellie said: “I can reflect on my efforts in my work to make sure I have done my best.”
Joseph said: “A friend in my class showed reflection when they thought about what they had said in the playground.”
Beyond the classroom
In our class, we’ve enjoyed a wide range of experiences this year to help us develop our love of learning.
In Autumn 1, we learnt the value of teamwork and resilience by taking part in a military bootcamp called ‘Mini Warriors’. Dean Weston, bootcamp leader, certainly put us through our paces.
In the October of Autumn 1, we welcomed a poet called Ian Bland into school. He conducted a very lively assembly showcasing some of his poems and then worked with us on creating our own poems focusing on rhythm and rhyme. We really enjoyed presenting our work to the rest of the year group at the end of the day.
In Spring 2, we enjoyed a fantastic residential at Minsteracres Retreat Centre. We completed wide variety of activities exploring different ways to pray from building a nature rosary to finding God in everyday objects. We ventured on a lovely woodland walk looking for aspects of God in the outside world and then spent time in the chapel listening to taize music whilst sketching the architecture of the chapel.
Engaging with our learning
During the Autumn term, we were really lucky to have our music lessons with a teacher called Mr Bunt. He taught us scales to follow in our singing then we learnt how to play an instrument called a melodica. It is similar to a keyboard but needs air blowing into it to produce the music.
Across the curriculum, our minds are filled with wonderful knowledge especially with the help of our exciting and fun lessons.
